Endourology

Endourology refers to a subspecialty in urology where minimally invasive techniques are used by a surgeon with special training to inspect the renal system and perform surgery within the body using surgical instruments and catheters. Endourology is an alternative procedure to traditional open surgery. These instruments, which include laparoscopes and endoscopes, can be easily inserted into areas such as the kidney, urethra, bladder, and ureter or through a small incision in the abdomen and guided to the appropriate location. Endourology procedures treat a range of conditions, such as stones in the ureter, kidney, bladder, blockages of the urethra or ureter, and beginning tumors of the of the prostate.
